X-Women drop game to Axewomen

Antigonish, NS – The U SPORTS No. 6 ranked Acadia Axewomen won their sixth consecutive game with an 81-52 victory over the STFX X-Women Tuesday night on Coach K Court at the Saputo Centre.

The conference leading Axewomen opened up a 25-15 lead after the first quarter of play. Megan Hebert (Wetaskiwin, AB) drained a three-pointer at the quarter buzzer to give the Axemen the 10-point edge.

The X-Women played a tighter second quarter but were outscored 21-15 as Acadia built up a 46030 lead at halftime.

Lizzie Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) scored 10 points for the Axewomen in the opening half, while first year guard Bianca Helmig (Speyer, DEU) added nine.

X-Women forward Ekaterina Karchevskaya (Mogilev, BY) had nine points for the X-Women in the first half.

The Axewomen held the X-Women to seven points in the third quarter as they held a 63-37 advantage after three quarters of play.

Veteran guard Haley McDonald (Port Williams, NS) scored seven points in the third frame for the Axewomen and added another nine in the fourth as her team closed out the 81-52 victory.

McDonald finished with a game-high 23 points and earned Subway player of the game honours.

Iseyemi scored 16 and added five rebounds, while Sarah Delorey (Elmsdale, NS) netted 10 and had six boards.

Karchevskaya finished with 11 points for the X-Women and was named their player of the game. Aliyah Fraser (New Glasgow, NS) had eight points.

Katie Upham (North River, NS) was X's top rebounder with six and she added seven points on the night, as did Elizabeth Kennedy (Richmond, BC) off the STFX bench.

Both teams have one game remaining on the AUS regular season schedule. Acadia travels to Fredericton for a game against the UNB Reds on Saturday night.

The X-Women will host Saint Mary's, also on Saturday night. Tip-off is 6:00 pm at Coach K Court.
