St. John's, NF - Making their return to the court tonight in AUS action, the Memorial Sea-Hawks earned a hard-fought 76-74 win over the visiting STFX X-Women.

The Sea-Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the opening half, thanks to their tremendous playmaking and opportune shot making, however, the X-Women weren't going to stay away for long and battled hard to the conclusion of a 46-36 Sea-Hawks lead in the first half, setting up for a second half packed with intense action.

Heading into the second half, the X-Women were looking to complete the comeback and make life hard on the Sea-Hawks to close the game out, and they did that, right until the final whistle.

Spectacular efforts by both Sea-Hawks point guard Inés Salat Margarit, who had the ball in her hands for the majority of the game, finishing with a double-double, 18 points and 11 rebounds, Margarit's fingerprints were all over the final score. Additionally, for the Sea-Hawks, Hannah Green made some key three-pointers in the final minutes, as well as grabbing a few crucial offensive rebounds, finishing the game with 18 points and nine rebounds, including a team-high four three-pointers.

Despite a concerted effort in the second half by StFX, led by Kimberly Kingsbury's 27 points, as well as Thamala Thorpe's 20 points, the team from Antigonish, NS couldn't quite complete the comeback in the final moments.

Sea-Hawks Inés Salat Margarit was awarded with the Subway Player of the Game, a consistent threat with the ball in her hands throughout the game, and one of the main reasons the home team walked away with a win.

The second half of the double header goes tomorrow at 1pm at the Field House.
