Huskies outpace X-Women in 68-50 win

Antigonish, NS – The Saint Mary's Huskies improve to 5-1 on the season with a 68-50 victory over the STFX X-Women (1-5) Saturday evening on Coach K Court at the Saputo Centre.

The win closes out home and home games with consecutive Saint Mary's victories as SMU also defeated the X-Women in Halifax Wednesday night, 75-67.

The Huskies got out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back.

Subway Player of the Game Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) paced Saint Mary's with a game-high 27 points, 15 of which came in the opening half.

McMillan was 3-6 from three-point range while teammate Arianna Macias (Tampa, FL) was 3-7 with 11 total points on the night.

Clara Gascoigne (Dartmouth, NS) was the top Huskies rebounder with 11 as they hauled in 42 total boards compared to the X-Women's 34.

STFX player of the game Kimberly Kingsbury (Nepean, ON) led the X-Women with 11 points and had six rebounds.

Tahmala Thorpe (Mississauga, ON) netted 10 points and Elizabeth Kennedy (Richmond, ON) added nine, as did Kira Atherley (Lasalle, ON) who was also X's top rebounder with 11 in the game.

Despite being outscored 18-7 in the first quarter, the X-Women came back in the second and points were even at 14 aside. The X-Women were within five points but found themselves trailing 32-21 at halftime.

The Huskies outlasted the X-Women 22-17 in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 20 midway through the quarter.

After three the Huskies were up 54-29 and held onto the victory, outscoring STFX 14-12 in the fourth.

Both teams will be back in AUS action on Wednesday night, November 17th. The Huskies will travel crosstown to play Dalhousie, while the X-Women will host Cape Breton. Tip-off for both games is 6:00 pm.
