WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Axewomen remain undefeated - improving to 2-0 on the season - with an 85-69 victory over the STFX X-Women (0-2) on Stu Aberdeen Court Friday night.

It was the second consecutive win over the same X-Women squad as they won 74-53 Wednesday night in Antigonish.

Veteran forward Jayda Veinot posted impressive statistics including 22 points, seven rebounds, and two of four from the distant arc.

"I think the way this game went is the way this season is going to go," said Veinot after the game.

"We have some learning to do for sure. We are seeing sparks of when we are actually playing well together and when we are playing disciplined and when we get to that point when we can play disciplined most of the time, we will have gone to where we want to be."

The Axewomen came flying out of the gate to nearly double the score in the first half. From winning the first tip-off, their ruthless defense, and their ability to make shots from anywhere on the court, the Axewomen led 23-12 after the first quarter.

Veinot was an immediate impact on the court, netting 12 of Acadia's 23 points.

By halftime, the X-Women were able to tighten the score with Acadia only leading by five points at 39-34. Both teams were playing aggressively and the officials started calling more fouls. Eventually, a technical foul was called against StFX as the game intensified and the scoreboard indicated a tight match.

The third quarter saw a lot of back and forth action as the score was the closest all game to 54-50 in favour of Acadia. Tahmala Thorpe of the X-Women was a standout player, racking up most of the points for her team with a total of 21 on the night.

The Axewomen were ultimately able to extend their lead in the fourth quarter and secure the 85-69 win.

The Subway Player of the Game was Sami Russell from Acadia who scored 14 points, and added nine rebounds and eight assists.

Other notable players included Lizzie Iseyemi who netted 15 points and Eva Widmeyer who had another strong performance, hitting threes from multiple spots on the court and adding 11 points.

Thorpe was the leading scorer for the X-Women while Kimberly Kingsbury and Aliyah Frser each contributed 12 points apiece. Kingsbury was the top X rebounder with eight on the night.

The Axewomen's next game will be November 12th when they travel to UNB, while the X-Women will be on the road to Halifax to face Saint Mary's on Wednesday, November 10th.
