X-Women wrap up exhibition play with loss to Axewomen

Wolfville, NS – The STFX X-Women wrapped up pre-season exhibition play with an 81-38 loss to the Acadia Axewomen Saturday night at War Memorial gymnasium.

The X-Women struggled out of the gate at Acadia built up a 26-12 lead after the first quarter and the visitors were unable to overcome and get back into the game.

The Axewomen outscored STFX 17-4 in the second quarter to build up a 43-16 halftime lead.

STFX regrouped in the second half and the third quarter was a much closer affair, with Acadia holding a slight 18-17 edge in scoring.

The home team wrapped up the final quarter with a 20-5 advantage en route to the victory.

Elizabeth Beals-Iseyemi lead the Axewomen with 23 points in the game and nine rebounds. Jayda Veinot scored 15.

For the X-Women, veteran Kimberly Kingsbury netted 20 points and contributed five rebounds.

Grace Rheault scored four points and had five rebounds and Kira Atherley added four points off the X bench.

The X-Women struggled from field goal range, going 11-54 for 20.4%, compared to the Axeowomen at 43.5%.

The game marks the final one on the X-Women exhibition schedule as they wrap up with a 1-3 pre-season record.

The AUS regular season begins with a pair of games in Fredericton against UNB on October 29th and 30th. Game time on both days is 6:00 pm.
