X-Women Seek Regional Route to CIS Tourney

The St. Francis Xavier X-Women basketball team get a second chance at the nationals in a Central Regional playoff game in Ottawa.

Three four-team regionals will produce three entries for the women’s Final 8 tournament next weekend in Windsor, Ont. They will join the four conference champions and a wildcard.

The X-Women finished third last weekend in the AUS women’s Final 6 tournament in St. John’s, N.L., winning the third-place game 56-35 over host Memorial.

Cape Breton won the AUS tournament for the third straight year by beating UNB 65-60 in the final. Cape Breton clinched a spot in the CIS tournament while UNB hosts the East Regional.

St. F.X. plays Alberta tonight while Winnipeg tangles with host Carleton. All regional finals are Saturday.

At Fredericton, UNB plays Western Ontario while Fraser Valley meets Toronto.
