Halifax, NS – The STFX Track team competed in six events January 17th and 18th at the Athletics NS Indoor Open at the Canada Games Centre.

Friday night, there was a trio of racers compete in the 3000m races, followed by a number of X-Women and X-Men racers in the 1000m and 1500m races on Saturday.

Allie Sandluck was the lone X competitor in the women's 3000m and she came sixth overall with a time of 10:12.50.

In the men's 3000m, Brett King came out on top, winning the race with a time of 8:25.31. His teammate Liam Patterson was second at 8:38.07.

On Saturday, six X-Women competed in the 1000m race. Caroline Ash was the top finisher, coming in second with a time of 2:54.35. Caden Lee (2:54.82), Eileen Benoit (2:57.32) and Sarah Watson (3:04.76) placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Jillian Bennett clocked in at 3:09.07 in 13th place and Maya Black was 14th at 3:09.74.

The men's 1000m has two X-Men racers. Luke MacDonald ran a 2:33.25 in third place and Lima McCullagh finished sixth with a 2:40.03 showing.

The same two joined four of their teammates in the men's 1500m race. Patterson was the top X finisher in second spot with a time of 3:56.02. MacDonald came fifth at 4:04.80 and Mathew Lawton (4:08.45) and McCullagh (4:12.81) were sixth and seventh. Rounding out the X-Men finishers were Landyn Cooke-Brithney in 11th at 4:19.49 and Andrew Lupenette in 14th with a 4:20.86 time.

The women's 1500m race featured nine X-Women runners. Poppy Moon garnered top honours, winning the race in a time of 4:37.32. She was followed closely by Lee in second spot at 4:37.64, and Benoit was third at 4:38.08.

Ash placed fifth with a time of 4:40.36, while Eden Hildebrand (4:58.62) and Poppy Thomson (4:58.64) were 11th and 12th. Rounding out the X placings were Paige Quinn (5:00.48) in 15th, Rebecca Haney (5:01.49) in 16th and Quincy Rotsaert-Smith (5:04.69) in 18th.

Next on the schedule for the STFX runners is the UNB SJ Meet taking place on January 31st and February 1st at the Irving Oil Field House in Saint John, NB.
