Runners compete in final meet prior to AUS championship

Halifax, NS – Members of the STFX Track team competed in the final meet prior to the AUS Championship on Saturday at the SMU Open at the Canada Games Centre.

There was a trio of X-Women runners at the meet, with the remainder of the team competing at the Boston Invitational. Brynn Hebert ran a time of 2:53.37 in the 1000m, good enough for second place. Jillian Bennett was ninth with a 3:25.07 result.

Quincy Rorsaert-Smith was eighth in the 3000m race, finishing at 11:01.73.

On the men's side, the X-Men competed in four events – 600m, 1000m, 1500m and 3000m.

Jack Wierzbicki won the 600m race with a time of 1:23.86. Tyler Baker was third at 1:28.16 and Noah Proulx was seventh with a 1:30.51 result.

In the 1000m race, Liam McCullagh took top spot with a 2:31.94 showing. His teammates Mathew Lawton (2:35.43), Liam Patterson (2:40.21), Ewan Fraser (2:46.74) and Proulx (2:41.84) placed fourth through seventh places, respectively.

Griffin Gamble and Andre Lupenette came 1-2 in the 1500m age 18-19 race with times of 4:03.20 and 4:13.46. In the same distance for age 20-34, Patterson was first with a 3:57.81 time. His teammates Joel Gallant (4:00.16), Luc Gallant (4:03.11) and Owen Flemming (4:15.94) were second, third and fourth.

Joel Gallant came fourth in the 3000m race with a final time of 8:46.16. Luke MacDonald was fifth at 8:47.19 and Luc Gallant sixth at 8:52.00.

The X runners will next see action at the AUS conference championship, scheduled for February 23rd and 24th in Moncton.
