Small STFX track contingent competes in Halifax meet, O'Connell races in Boston

Halifax, NS – STFX Track sent a small squad to compete in the Athletics Nova Scotia Last Chance Meet on Saturday at the Canada Games Centre.

The X-Women competed in the 1000m and 1500m events, while the X-Men were represented in the 1000m and 3000m races.  

In the women's 1000m race, Brynn Hebert (Wetaskiwin, AB) ran a personal best time of 2:52 in second place. Hannah McIntyre (Dorchester, ON) also had a PB at 2:58 and was sixth overall amongst all racers.

Paige Quinn (Ottawa, ON) came first in the 1500m with a PB time of 5:04.90.

In the men's 1000m, Owen Flemming (Bedford, NS) was the top finisher with a time of 2:35.39, a personal best result for the second year X runner.

A pair of X-Men finished first and second in the 3000m race. Griffin Gamble (Shad Bay, NS), the AUS cross country rookie of the year, had a PB time of 8:44.27 in first place, with teammate Liam McCullagh (Toronto, ON) in second with an 8:49.96 result.

Mathew Lawton (Bedford, NS) also competed in the 3000m but unfortunately had his spike stepped on early in the race and he was unable to finish.

Second year X-Men runner Jack O'Connell (Toronto, ON) competed in Boston Saturday at the Sharon Colyear-Danvile Season Opener at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. O'Connell travelled with his club team to the meet while representing STFX in the 3000m race. He ran a personal best time of 8:20.84 and was 70th overall amongst a large field of 106 racers. His time now ranks him fourth overall on the X-Men all-time list for the 3k event.

The meets mark the final ones of 2023 before racing resumes January 19-20 at the Halifax Open.
