Track team competes in first indoor meet of 2023-24 season

Saint John, NB – The STFX Track team competed in their first meet of the 2023-24 indoor season Saturday at the Red & Black Open.

X-Women runners competed in the 1000m, 1500m and 3000m events, while the X-Men were in the 600m, 1000m and 3000m races.

Sarah Watson and Hannah McIntyre competed in the women's 18-19 division where Watson was first in the 1000m race with a time of 3:09.36 and McIntyre first in the 1500m with a 4:47.88 result.

In the women's 20-34 division, Brynn Hebert was the lone X runner in the 1500m race and came out on top with a time of 4:45.28. In the 3000m race, four X-Women swept the top four placings including Eileen Benoit (9:46.33), Allie Sandluck (9:53.76), Mairin Canning (9:56.85) and Taylor Rasmussen (10:44.69). Benoit's time marked the second fastest 3000m time in X-Women history. The record time of 9:25.40 was set by Siona Chisholm in 2022.

In the men's races, a trio of X-Men competed in the 18-19 division 3000m race as Jack O'Connell (8:31.34), Liam Patterson (8:35.38) and Luke MacDonald (9:02.19) came 1-2-3. In the men's 2-34 race, Joel Gallant topped the field with an 8:41.40 result.

In the men's 600m, Tyler Baker was the lone X racer in the 20-34 division, coming third with a time of 1:27.13. Jack Wierzbicki was first in the 1000m race for age 20-34 with a clocking of 2:33.87.

Next on the schedule for the squad is a meet in Halifax on December 2nd.
