X-Women 4x800m relay team sets new school record at NB meet

Saint John, NB – The X-Men and X-Women track teams completed at the NB Invitational meet on January 28 and 29th at the Irving Oil Fieldhouse.

On Friday the blue and white runners participated in the 4x800m relay races and the 3000m events.

The X-Women squad of Mairin Canning, Allie Sandluck, Caroline Ash and Brynn Hebert set a new X-Women school record in the 4x800m relay with their time of 9:10.15 as they claimed first place in the race.

In the men's 4x800m, the X-Men placed fourth with a time of 8:03.14. Team members were Luc Gallant, Owen Fleming, Jacob Benoit, and Liam Paterson.

The X-Men had two racers in the 3000m. Luke MacDonald finished with a 8:51.78 result, good enough for sixth place, while Ben Good was 10th at 9:04.71.

In the women's 3000m event, the X-Women had four competitors. Eileen Benoit was second overall with a 10:24.03 showing. Bridget Keedwell (10:35.30) came fourth, while Tanna Burke (11:00.35) and Quincy Rotsaert-Smith (11:29.54) were eighth and eleventh, respectively.

All races feature a mix of university runners, club sport and unattached competitors from across the Maritime region.

On Saturday, the blue and white competed in the mile, 600m, 1500m, 1000m and 300m events.

In the men's mile, the blue and white had six racers in the field of 30, including Jacob Benoit who placed fourth overall with his clocking of 4:12.49. Owen Flemming was 10th at 4:24.34, Liam Patterson (4:26.51) was 14th, Luc Gallant (4:29.26) was 16th overall, with Luke MacDonald (4:31.35) and Ben Good (4:34.92) coming 18th and 23rd.

In the women's mile, STFX had nine competitors in the field of 21. Allie Sandluck was the top blue and white finisher, coming in third spot overall with a time of 5:05.50. Caroline Ash (5:06.98) and Mairin Canning (5:08.43) were fourth and fifth.

Rounding out the X-Women performances were Eileen Benoit (5:11.14, 7th), Taylor Rasmussen (5:20.73, 11th), Caden Lee (5:23.41, 14th), Julia Cameron (5:25.16, 16th), Bridget Keedwell (5:25.04) and Tanna Burke (5:31.30, 18th).

Quincy Rotsaert-Smith was the lone STFX competitor in the 1500m race where she placed sixth overall with a rime of 5:23.31.

In with women's 600m, Brynn Hebert was fourth at 1:37.63 and Natasha Chojnacki sixth at 1:39.90.

Jack Wierzbicki (1:25.38), Adrian Brennan (1:27.36) and Tyler Baker (1:28.93) placed fifth, eighth and tenth for the X-Men in the 600m.

Adrian Brennan had the eighth faster time in the 300m race with a 38.11 result, while teammate Tyler Baker was 10th at 38.8.

In the women's 300m race, Brynn Hebert's time of 44.0 was eighth best in the field of 21 racers, with Caroline Ash coming 13th with a 45.74 finish.

Next on the indoor track schedule is the SMU Open at the Canada Games Centre in Halifax on Saturtday, February 11th.
