X-Women place 9th at McGill Team Challenge track meet

Montreal, QC – The X-Women track & field team competed at the 21st annual McGill Team Challenge at the Tomlinson Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday, placing ninth overall amongst 17 teams. The indoor meet is one of the largest in the country, drawing hundreds of athletes each year.

The X-Women squad had athletes competing in sprinting events, distance races, pentathlon, throwing and jumping events.

In the 60m dash, six X-Women competed in the preliminaries amongst 59 competitors. Jillian Murphy was the top X finisher in 14th place with a time of 8.01, while Abbi Finnan (8.07) was 16th. Both qualified for the final where Murphy was 14th at 8.04 and Finnan was 15th at 8.07.

Other X-Women results in the prelims were Eilish MacQuarrie (20th, 8.16), Candace Cruickshank (27th, 8.27), Perrisa Forbes (37th, 8.48) and Jillian Nolan (42nd, 8.63).

In the 300m dash, the same six X-Women competed, along with Bridget Brennan who nabbed a top ten finish in seventh place with a time of 40.71. MacQuarrie placed 15th at 41.74, Murphy was 19th at 42.73 and Cruickshank was 20th at 42.18 amongst a field of 60. Finnan (26th, 42.91), Forbes (30th, 43.15), Beth Lawrence (33rd, 43.98) and Nolan (48th, 46.30) rounded out the X finishers.

In the women's 600m race, Allie Flower came 20th overall in the field of 56 with a time of 1:40.22. Lawrence was 30th at 1:42.09 and Kevyn Timmons placed 35th with a 1:44.41 result. Timmons was the lone X-Women competitor in the 1000m race where she finished 24th with a time of 3:13.54.

In the distance events, four X-Women competed in both the 1500m and 3000m events. Hana Maramura was the top X finishers in both races, coming 29th in the 1500m at 4:59.34 and 22nd in the 3000m at 10;45.37.

In the field of 54 in the 1500m race, Liz MacDonald was 30th with a time of 4:59.40. Kendra MacNeil (5:03.71) and Olivia MacDonald (5:09.74) were 37th and 43rd, respectively.

In the 3000m race, Liz MacDonald (10:48.99) was 24th, MacNeil (10:58.68) was 28th and Olivia MacDonald (11:19.01) was 34th. A total of 38 racers finished the event.

Mary Catherine Thompson competed in the high jump and long jump for X. She was 13th in the high jump with a 1.45m result and placed 12th in the long jump at 4.82m. Maddy Nastastiuk also competed in the long jump, placing 17th with a 4.58m showing.

In the throwing events, Hailey Pollock had an impressive second place finish in the shot put with a 12.44m throw. In the weight throw she was 8th overall with a 11.46m throw. Teammate Jessica Warrener came 6th with an 11.85m result.

Reigning StFX athlete of the week Bridget Brennan competed in the indoor pentathlon, coming fifth overall amidst 11 in the challenging event. Brennan won the 60m hurdles, came second in the 800m, third in the long jump, seventh in the shot put and eighth in the high jump en route to posting 3441 points for her top five finish.

With 26 points, the X-Women placed ninth overall in the meet's team standings in a field of 17teams. Dalhousie were the meet winners with 132 points, followed by Sherbrooke (101.5) and McGill (83.5).
