Kannenberg 3rd in 3000m race at McGill meet

The X-Women track and field team competed at the 18th annual McGill Team Challenge this past weekend in Montreal at Tomlinson Fieldhouse.

The largest indoor meet in Canada attracted 27 university teams and 792 athletes. Guelph won the women’s title with 113 points, followed by Toronto (110.5) and Western (68.5). The X-Women were 15th with 9 points amongst the 17 teams.

The X-Women’s top performance came in the 3000m race with veteran runner Natalie Kannenberg turning in a third place showing, clocking in at 10:07.17 amidst the field of 34. Melissa Hardy also ran well, placing in the top ten in sixth place overall with a time of 10:15.64. Also competing in the event for the X-Women were Natasha Herron (17th, 10:27.81), Alexa Zarins (21st, 10:37.90), Kendra MacNeil (33rd, 11:30.05) and Ginny Anderson (34th, 11:59.41).

Hardy was 25th in the 1500m race at 4:50.91, followed by teammates Liz O’Connell (4:53.34) and Kannenberg (4:53.68) in 27th and 29th, respectively in a race that featured 61 runners. Also competing for X were Zarins (41st, 5:00.70), Herron (45th, 5:03.29), Anderson (56th, 5:22.04) and MacNeil (5:22.40).

O’Connell was the top X-Woman in the 1000m event, placing 21st overall amid the field of 44 with a time of 3:06.82. Kathryn Tuck was 38th at 3:16.79.

In the sprinting events, Eilish MacQuarrie and Heidi Stirling ran to top 20 showings in the 300m race. MacQuarrie placed 14th with a time of 41.62, while Stirling was 19th at 42.08. Also competing for the X-Women in the field of 63 was Bridget Brennan (42.87) in 32nd and Jillian Nolan (45.55) in 50th.

MacQuarrie and Stirling also competed in the 600m race. Stirling finished 16th with a time of 1:38.95, while MacQuarrie was 29th at 1:44.35.

In the 60m dash, three X-Women competed in the preliminary heats which featured 70 sprinters. Brennan was 34th, clocking 8.30. Nadine Otten was 43rd at 8.42, while Nolan was 48th at 8.50. Otten also ran the 60m hurdles, coming in 18th with a time of 11.80.

The women’s 4x200m relay team of Otten, Stirling, MacQuarrie and Brennan placed 12th overall with a time of 1:48.33.
In the jumping events, Brennan placed 21st in the long jump with a 4.90m showing. Rebecca Bell was 32nd with a 4.45m jump. Bell also placed 18th in the triple jump with a 9.07m finish.

The X-Women will have the coming weekend off, before heading to Halifax on February 16th for the Dalhousie Invitational. The AUS championship is scheduled for February 23-24th in Moncton.
