X-Men track & field compete in Halifax

The X-Men track and field team competed at their second meet of the indoor season this past Saturday in Halifax at the Athletics NS Open. All events were held at the Canada Games Center. StFX had athletes competing in the majority of running and jumping disciplines.

There was a large field of 33 sprinters who competed in the 60m dash, including eight X-Men. Demetrius Ferguson was the top finisher for the blue in white, coming in third place at 7:09, just 0.02 seconds off second place and 0.06 off first. Conor Kyte (7.47) placed 13th and was followed by teammates Andre Peach (7.52) in 16th, Hayden Peters (7.56) in 17th, Robert Bird (7.59, 20th), Jide Ojuawo, (7.69, 22nd), Chris Shibley (7.73, 23rd) and Charlton Elliott (7.74, 25th).

The X-Men had seven runners in the 300m dash including Mackenzie Munroe who won the race and ran a personal best time of 36.86. Peters came third at 37.49 and Max Maund was fifth for the X-Men at 37.58. Peach placed 7th at 37.82, followed up by Ojuawo (39.32) and Shibley (39.52) in 14th and 15th and A.J. Doyle (40.34) in 18th.

Munroe also ran a personal best time in the 600m race, placing first amongst university runners and third overall with a time of 1:24.95. Maund was behind him in fourth spot at 1:25.29, while Doyle (1:30.41) and Stuart MacNeil (1:31.26) came 9th and 10th. Alex Vanderlinden wrapped up the StFX field in 13th place at 1:33.88.

MacNeil was the lone StFX competitor in the 1000m race and with a time of 2:53.73 placed fifth overall.

In the 1500m run, Will Forsey (4:12.77) and Patrick Marlow (4:15.80) represented StFX and ran to third and fourth place showings, respectively.

Six X-Men competed in the 3000m race including two-time AUS cross country champion Connor McGuire, who placed first amongst university runners and second overall with a time of 8:24.05. Scott Donald (8:44.98) was fifth and Stephen Deering (8:52.70) was sixth, while Bryden Tate (9:04.77), Riley Johnston (9:06.27) and Dennis Kayumba (9:08.74) placed 10th through 12th.

StFX ran two teams in the 4x200m relay race. One team came in second (1:35.45) behind Dalhousie (1:32.33), and the second StFX team was close behind in third place at 1:39.65. 

In the 60m hurdles, the X-Men had runners finish third through sixth. Devon Martell clocked the fastest time for X in third place at 9.24. He was followed by Greg Gilfoy (9.47), Jake McKenna (9.92) and Colin Thompson (10.61).

In the jumping events, Martell placed third in both the high jump (1.85m) and triple jump (13.09m), and fourth in the long jump (6.01m). McKenna was fifth in the high jump (1.75m) and long jump (5.80m).

Next on the schedule for the StFX squad is the McGill Invitational on Montreal, slated for January 25-26th.
