X-Men clinch home ice advantage for quarterfinal playoff series with win over Acadia
The X-Men defeated Acadia 3–1 in their final regular season game Saturday night, clinching fourth place and home ice advantage for the quarterfinals
Wolfville, NS – The STFX X-Men defeated Acadia 3–1 in their final regular season game Saturday night. The win clinches fourth place for the X-Men as they finish the season with a 15-13-1-1 record and 32 points, two ahead of fifth place Acadia (14-14-1-1).
The same two teams will be back in action for the AUS quarterfinal best-of-three playoff series which gets underway next week. The X-Men will host Game 1 of the series, with Game 2 shifting to Acadia and Game 3 back at STFX, if needed. The complete playoff schedule will be released by the AUS office Sunday.
In Saturday's game, X-Men forward Dallas Farrell opened the scoring in the game with just over a minute left in the first period to give X an early lead. Zack Trott and Charlie Callaghan assisted.

The X-Men took a 3-0 lead in the second period as Trott tallied just 40 seconds in, off a pass from Callaghan.

Cole Stewart scored the third X-Men goal at 7:12 from Ryan Struthers and Clark Webster.

The Axemen got one back late in the period while on the power play as Adam McMaster scored, assisted by Brady Burns and Charlie Desroches.
The third period remained scoreless as the X-Men held onto the 3-1 win, despite being outshot 31-26 by the Axemen. The win was an important one on the road that clinched STFX home ice advantage for the quarterfinal series.
Patrick Leaver earned the win in the X net with 30 saves on the night. Thomas Couture posted 23 saves in the losing effort for Acadia.
Trott earned first star and player of the game honours. Leaver was the second star and Acadia's McMaster was the third star.
