X-Men Hockey announce 10 new recruits for upcoming 2024-25 season
STFX men’s hockey head coach Brad Peddle is pleased to announce the addition of 10 new recruits to the X-Men line-up for the 2024-25 season.
ANTIGONISH, NS – STFX men's hockey head coach Brad Peddle is pleased to announce the addition of 10 new recruits to the X-Men line-up for the 2024-25 season.
Joining the blue and white this fall will be forwards Ethan Burroughs, Alex Christopoulos, Bill Gourgon, Jacob Maillet, Colby Saganiuk, Ryan Struthers and Cole Stewart, along with defenceman Owain Johnston, Simon Motew and goaltender Patrick Leaver.
"We are very pleased to add these incoming recruits to the X-Men Hockey program for the 2024-25 season," comments Coach Peddle.
"We graduated several players from last year and it was very important to find the right types of players and people. We have addressed several needs in every position and are excited to see the energy and talent this will add to our team."
Peddle adds, "There is a great mix of character, compete level and experience in this group and we look forward to the contributions and impact each one will make to our program."
Ethan Burroughs is a 5'10", 183 pound forward from Georgetown, Ont. who garnered 182 points in 203 career OHL regular season games, including 31 goals and 45 assists. He played with the Iowa Heartlanders in the ECHL, and the OHL's Owen Sound Attack where he spent time as an alternate captain.
Alex Christopoulos is a 6'0", 194 pound forward from Toronto, Ont. who played with the OHL's Saginaw Spirit, Windsor Spitfires and North Bay Battalion. He was an alternate captain with Windsor and won the Memorial Cup with Saginaw this past season. He tallied 127 points (49 goals and 78 assists) in 126 regular season games.
Bill Gourgon is a 5'11", 185 pound forward from Ottawa, Ont. who registered 113 career points in 115 games played with both the Carleton Place Canadians and Blackfalds Bulldogs in the CCHL.
Owain Johnston is a 6'1", 184 pound defenceman from Etobicoke, Ont. who spent time with the Erie Otters as alternate captain, playing in 187 career games for the OHL squad.
Patrick Leaver is a 6'1", 185 pound goaltender from Ottawa, Ont. who has previously played with the St. John Sea Dogs, Guelph Storm, and Oshawa Generals, racking up 144 career CHL games played.
Jacob Maillet is a 6'1", 190 pound forward from Hamilton, Ont. who was an alternate captain with the Windsor Spitfires and also spent time with the Ottawa 67's and Guelph Storm, playing in 256 regular season games over his OHL career, earning 172 points.
Simon Motew is a 6'0", 183 pound defenceman from Chicago, IL who was an alternate captain with the Kitchener Rangers, playing in 212 career OHL games.
Colby Saganiuk is a 5'7", 161 pound forward from Pittsburgh, PA who spent time playing with the Sioux City in the USHL and the Erie Otters of the OHL. He played for U17 Team USA prior to his major junior career.
Ryan Struthers is a 6'0", 161 pound forward from Milton, Ont. who previously spent time with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires, Mississauga Steelheads and Niagara Icedogs, playing in 138 career games. He is a brother to former X-Men forward Matthew Struthers.
Cole Stewart is a 5'11", 183 pound forward from Moncton, NB who is a U SPORTS transfer student-athlete, having previously played at Nipissing University. He has played in 72 U SPORTS and 93 CHL games to date.
