X-Men fall to Aigles Bleus in road game

Moncton, NB - Freshman Jeremy Lapointe scored twice and added an assist to lead the Moncton Aigles Bleus to their first win of the season with a 5-2 margin over the STFX X-Men on Friday night at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Lapointe scored his team's first goal on the power play and the last one on an empty net in the game that featured fast-moving play from one end of the ice to the other.

StFX's Raegan Wiles opened the scoring in the game with a power play marker at 11:49 of the 1st period before Lapointe tied it up late in the period.

Alex Arsenault tallied for Moncton five minutes into the second period but the X-Men responded with a goal off the stick of Matthew Philip three minutes later.

Jérémy Michel gave the Aigles Bleus back their one-goal lead as they were up 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The X-Men were unable to even the game and Nathael Roy widened the Moncton lead with a third period goal at 9:15. Lapointe rounded out the scoring with his empty netter late in the period as he finished the game at +4 and was named the first star. Jérémy Michel and goaltender Olivier Adam were the second and third stars.

Adam posted 28 saves in the Moncton net for the win. Joseph Raaymakers turned aside 24 pucks in the losing effort for the X-Men.

The X-Men led 30-29 in shots on goal and each team scored once in seven power play attempts apiece.

Next on the AUS schedule sees the Dalhousie Tigers visiting the Aigles Bleus on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., while the X-Men visit the UNB Reds on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Fredericton.
