Stingers get best of X-Men in exhibition match-up
The STFX X-Men were back in pre-season action Friday night in a match against RSEQ opponent Concordia, who handed them a 4-2 loss.
Montreal, QC – The STFX X-Men were back in pre-season action Friday night in a match against RSEQ opponent Concordia, who handed them a 4-2 loss.
The Stingers got out to a 2-0 first period lead, thanks to goals from Phelix Martineau and Simon Lavingne.
The home team also outshot the blue and white 19-6 in the opening period.
Concordia went up 3-0 at the 8:45 mark of the second period when Martineau scored his second goal of the game.
The X-Men got on the board just over five minutes later when freshman defenseman scored his first career X goal, assisted by Dallas Farrell and Zack Trott.
The remainder of the middle period was scoreless as the Stingers held onto the 3-1 lead after 40 minutes, outshooting the X-Men 16-11.
Shots were fairly even in the third period, 15-14 for Concordia, as the two squads exchanged goals.
Isiah Campbell scored for the Stingers around 11 minutes in while on the power play, and Liam Hawel tallied for X at 16:36, from Charlie Callaghan.
The X-Men were unable to close the gap as the Stingers held on for the win.
Final shots were 44-37 for Concordia as Jordan Naylor earned the win in nets. Lucas Pfeil was tagged with the loss between the pipes for the X-Men.
STFX will be back in action Saturday night when they head to Trois Rivieres to take on the UQTR Patriotes. Puck drop is 4:00 pm EDT.
