X-Men hockey announce pair of recruits

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX men's hockey head coach Brad Peddle is pleased to announce a pair of recruits for the 2020-21 season, both from the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL. Forward Ethan Crossman and defenseman Brendon Clavelle will be joining the X-Men program this fall.

Ethan Crossman is a 5'11", 195-pound left winger from Sackville, N.B. who has five years experience with various teams in the QMJHL, most recently with Charlottetown. This past season in 26 games with Charlottetown and 32 with Chicoutimi, Crossman had 35 points (13G, 22A). He was a member of the Memorial Cup champion team with Bathurst in 2018, and was invited to the Carolina Hurricanes rookie camp in 2019.

"We are very pleased to be adding Ethan to our program," notes Coach Peddle. "He is a very good two-way player with great speed and competitive skill. Ethan also has some valuable winning experience on a very good Bathurst team a couple years ago with current X-Men Adam Holwell. He is a very good student and will a great addition to our group."

Crossman is very excited to be attending StFX University in the fall, commenting, "I have heard nothing but outstanding feedback on the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and the StFX hockey program, and I am humbled to be apart of them. My mom is a StFX nursing grad and her great experience had a significant impact on my decision to come to X."

Brendon Clavelle is a 5'11", 195-pound defenseman from Kapuskasing, Ont. who has played the last three seasons with the Charlottetown Islanders. The captain of the team this year, and an assistant prior to that, Clavelle tallied 20 points in 54 games played (2G, 18A) for the Islanders who were in third place in the Maritimes division prior to play being suspended.

Coach Peddle comments, "Brendon will be a great addition to our program. He is a very good defender that plays a hard competitive game. He is a player that is used to playing against other teams top players, and he brings outstanding leadership and character as captain of his team. I feel that he will help strengthen our team defense and be a very solid addition to our blue line."

"It is a huge honour to attend StFX and to join one of the best hockey programs in the nation," says Clavelle. "I am truly fortunate as not many student-athletes have the opportunity to further their education and hockey career at such a prestigious university. I am looking forward to becoming an X-Man and can't wait for the journey to begin."

Crossman and Clavelle join previously announced recruit Patrick Kyte, a defenceman from Pembroke, Ont.
