X-Men shutout by Panthers

Antigonish, NS - The X-Men (9-9-1) find themselves in a three-game losing skid in AUS play after a 3-0 loss to UPEI (9-7-2) Friday night at the Keating Centre.

Led by two third period goals by Tyler Brown and a 34 save shutout effort by Wayne Savage, the Panthers earned the shutout over the X-Men.

The Panthers scored their first goal on the power play at 13:23 of the first period. Mason Wilgosh banked in the puck past StFX goalie Drew Owsley behind the goal line. Jordan Mayer and Christopher Deso assisted on the play.

That lone goal stood until Brown's first goal at 6:27 of the third period.

The two teams exchanged several scoring chances throughout the game as it was a goaltending battle with both Savage and Owsley made key saves for their respective teams.

Brown's first goal from Travis McIsaac and Deso was a low shot from inside the point that beat a partially screened Owsley.

His second goal and the Panthers third on the evening came three minutes later as McIsaac dug out the puck in the corner and threw it out front to an open Brown parked in front of the net who one-timed it in. Matthew Maione also picked up a helper on the play.

Savage was the first star of the game and picked up Subway player of the game honors with 34 saves for the shutout. Brown was named second star and StFX forward Rob Slaney was the third star.

Owsley had 27 saves for the X-Men who outshot the Panthers by a 34-30 margin.
