X-Men Subway Summer Hockey School Set To Go

ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX men’s hockey head coach Brad Peddle has announced that applications are now available for the upcoming 2012 X-Men Subway Summer Hockey School.

“We are pleased to announce a new and improved line-up of camp options available for local youth,” comments X-Men head coach and camp director Brad Peddle. “All of our camps will have new and improved drills and techniques and we are happy to offer a new ‘Shooters & Scorers Camp’ along with a ‘Half Day Goalie Camp’ as additional options this summer.”

The 11th annual camp X-Men Subway Hockey School will feature a variety of options across three weeks in August.

Week one takes place August 6-10 and features the half day goalie camp for goaltenders of all ages. Young netminders will be subject to daily on-ice sessions, off-ice workouts and video sessions each morning. Also taking place during week one is the major bantam, major midget and high school conditioning camp, slated in 90 minute daily evening sessions throughout the week and featuring high intensity, fast-paced drills and scrimmages.

Week two, August 13-17, of the X-Men hockey school will feature the high performance camp, ‘young guns’ minis camp, ‘magic hands’ stickhandling camp and the ‘strong & steady’ defenseman camp. The high performance camp is open to novice, atom and pee wee aged players and will run daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, while the later three specialty camps will be scheduled into one-hour time slots each evening throughout the week, targeting in on specific hockey skills tailored to each group.

Week three rounds out the summer hockey school options from August 20-24, and will feature the full day ‘skills, drills & fun’ camp, the new shooters & scorers camp, the ‘true technique’ power skating camp and the goalie refresher camp. Similar to the week two options, the highly popular full day camp is open to novice, atom and pee wee age skaters and is scheduled daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with the remaining three specialty camps slated for one hour sessions each evening.

For the second consecutive year camp participants will take part in the ‘X-Out Bullying’ program, addressing the many forms and issues of bullying as it relates to a young player’s hockey experience.

Coach Peddle relays, “We are excited to welcome back an outstanding staff that includes our X-Men coaches and players, along with guest instructors that will be on the ice each week. The X-Men Subway Summer Hockey School has been very successful and well received in the past due to our high-quality staff and the premier facilities at the Charles V. Keating Centre and StFX University, and we expect another great camp this year.”
