Community Service Profile: Murdock MacLellan
The following is a student-athlete community service profile on X-Men hockey forward Murdock MacLellan. MacLellan is a member of the StFX Athletics Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) and is a third year Science student from Mabou, NS.

Why is it important for you to be actively involved in community initiatives?

MM:  It is important for me personally to be actively involved in the community initiatives because I believe it is the community that supports not only our athletics but the University in general, so in saying that, it is vital that we give back to them in any ways possible such as being a member of SALT.

Is there a certain something or someone that you draw inspiration from to help others out?

MM:  I come from a small community where everyone knows everybody else and it is a great feeling. I have a lot of followers from my home town who supported me throughout my life and without those people I wouldn't have made it very far so I am just trying to give back what people have gave to me.

What is your favorite event the SALT (Student Athlete Leadership Team) team contributes to each year?

MM:  I'm not sure if I could narrow it down to just one event, each and every event is special in its own way and usually helps a different group of people every time so that in itself makes them all special individually.

How are you able to organize your time and juggle athletics, academics and SALT commitments all at once?

MM:  Discipline. It gets pretty hectic at times juggling everything, but like I said above, it is an obligation you have to give back a little of the support you received when you were young and try to pass on some of the things you learned along the way through personal experiences.

What is the greatest sense of accomplishment you can take from your SALT experience to date?

MM:  The Christmas parade was pretty cool to be in, although all athletes did it also. I am a big supporter of other varsity teams which we as SALT members try to get teammates out to the games so hopefully by being there myself will bring some of the other guys out too.
