Faculty Profile: Dr. Denton Anthony

January 11-17, 2016 marks the 8th annual StFX Faculty Appreciation Week, presented by StFX Athletics. All current and retired StFX faculty members will receive free admission to this week’s varsity games upon presentation of their StFX faculty ID card.

On Friday, Jan. 15th, StFX Athletics will recognize our 61 CIS Academic All-Canadians (StFX student-athletes with 80% average or higher) at a celebratory breakfast.  Each Academic All-Canadian will invite a faculty member to join in the celebration.

As part of Faculty Appreciation week, StFX Athletics will be profiling various faculty members on our website. Today we feature Dr. Denton Anthony from the business administration department.

An Assistant Professor of Marketing, Dr. Anthony is in his 13th year at StFX University. He holds Honors BA in Law and Justice from Laurentian University, an MBA from Lake Superior State University, MI, and a PhD in Marketing Management from the University of Liverpool, UK. His research interests lie in customer value, loyalty programs and service dominant logic. Dr. Anthony is currently in his tenth year as Assistant Coach and Academic Advisor for the X-Men Basketball team.

What inspires you on a daily basis as a faculty member at StFX University?
I just really love my job – everything about it, the interaction with Faculty, staff and students.  I feel very fortunate to work at an institution like StFX.

How does involvement in athletics complement success in academics for students?
I really think athletics and academics are complimentary.  They both help keep the student-athlete grounded, organized and focused.

What motivated you to become involved with Athletics at StFX?
As a former student-athlete, I thought I had something to offer to student-athletes both on and off the basketball court.  My duel role as an assistant coach and academic advisor is rewarding and totally involves me with the student-athlete.

What advice do you have for students trying to manage their time?
Take a big chore and break it down into smaller pieces – small wins are better than no wins!
