2014 AUS fall sports schedules released

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport released the 2014 fall sports schedules today, including women’s rugby, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country. Hosts for the fall Subway AUS championships were also confirmed.

In women’s rugby, last year’s first and second-placed StFX X-Women and Acadia Axewomen will open the season with away games. The defending champion X-Women will visit the Saint Mary’s Huskies for their home opener Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. while the Axewomen will visit the UPEI Panthers that same day, also at 2 p.m.

StFX and Acadia will play their own home openers the following weekend when Acadia hosts Saint Mary’s and StFX hosts UPEI Sunday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.

The rival X-Women and Axewomen will face off in Week 3 in a rematch of last season’s championship game Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

The 2014 Subway AUS women’s rugby championship will be hosted by Acadia University Oct. 25-26. The AUS champion will travel to the University of Guelph Oct. 30-Nov. 1 to compete in the 2014 CIS women’s rugby championship.

All ten AUS men’s and women’s soccer teams will see action on opening weekend Sept. 5-7. The defending champion Cape Breton Capers women’s team will host the Saint Mary’s Huskies in their home and season opener Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. The reigning men’s soccer champion UNB Varsity Reds will open their season with two games at Memorial in Week 1. They will host the Cape Breton Capers in their home opener in Week 2, Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:15 p.m.

This season’s Subway AUS men’s and women’s soccer championships will be hosted Oct. 31-Nov. 2 by Memorial and Dalhousie University, respectively. The University of Prince Edward Island will host the CIS men’s soccer championship the following weekend, Nov. 6-9, while the CIS women’s soccer championship will be hosted by Laval.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will open up their season with an invitational meet Saturday, Sept. 13 hosted by Acadia in Wolfville, NS. UNB and St. Thomas will play joint hosts to the second meet a week later, while Moncton will host the third invitational meet Saturday, Oct. 4.

StFX will host the final invitational meet this season on Saturday, Oct. 11. Saint Mary’s will play host this season to the 2014 Subway AUS cross country championship Oct. 25 in Halifax.

Memorial University will host the 2014 CIS cross country championships.
