Atlantic University Sport releases 2024-25 winter sports schedules

(HALIFAX, N.S.) – Atlantic University Sport (AUS) has released its 2024-25 winter sport schedules along with the hosts for the 2025 AUS winter championships.

Women's and men's basketball

The 2024-25 AUS women's and men's basketball will begin at the end of October with the reigning champs in action. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Dalhousie Tigers will head to STFX for a matchup with the X-Women and X-Men at 6 and 8 p.m.

The men's game will be a rematch of last season's AUS Men's Basketball Championship final in which the Tigers defeated the X-Men 77-67 in an overtime thriller.

Wednesday's other games will see the Axewomen and Axemen of Acadia heading into Halifax to take on the Saint Mary's University Huskies – women at 6 p.m. and men right after at 8 p.m.

The Huskies women's team are the two-time defending champions and will look to start their season on the right foot as they seek a third-straight AUS title.

The first half of the season will wrap up on Nov. 30 and pick back up again on Jan. 8. Regular season play will finish on Feb. 21.

Atlantic University Sport will once again host the 2025 Women's and Men's Basketball Championships from Feb. 28 to March 2 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, with the top six women's and men's teams taking part.

The University of British Columbia will host both the men's and women's U SPORTS National Championships, March 13-16.

Women's hockey

The 2024-25 AUS women's hockey season will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 2 with the Saint Mary's Huskies travelling to New Brunswick to take on the host Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in a 7 p.m. puck drop.

The three-time defending champions from UNB will start their season two days later as they head to Halifax to take on the Dalhousie Tigers at 7 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. contest the next day against the Huskies.

The fall season will end on Nov. 30 before starting again in the new year on Jan. 8.

Following the completion of the regular season on Feb. 16, the top six teams will advance to the playoffs – which will feature three rounds of playoff series with the top two seeds receiving byes into the semi-final round. 

The quarterfinals will follow a best-of-three format while the semifinals will be a best-of-five series. The 2024-25 AUS women's hockey champion will be determined by a best-of-three championship final series.

The University of Waterloo will host the U SPORTS Women's Hockey National Championship March 20-23.

Men's hockey

AUS men's hockey fans can circle Wednesday, Oct. 2 on their calendars as the start of the 2024-25 season. That night will feature the Saint Mary's Huskies heading to Charlottetown to take on the host UPEI Panthers in a 7 p.m. start.

UNB, the two-time defending U SPORTS champs and six-time defending AUS champions, will kick off their regular season on Friday, Oct. 4 against the visiting Dalhousie Tigers at 7 p.m.

The regular season will end on Feb. 15 with the top six teams moving on to the post-season – consisting of a pair of best-of-three quarter-final series. The two top-seeded teams will receive a bye to the semi-final round, which will feature two best-of-five series.

The two semi-final winners will meet in a best-of-three series for the 2024-25 AUS Men's Hockey Championship final.

The 2024-25 U SPORTS University Cup Men's National Championship will be hosted by the University of Ottawa from March 20-23.

Women's volleyball

The nets go up Friday, Oct. 25 as the AUS women's volleyball season begins with a trio of games on opening night.

UNB will take on the host Dalhousie Tigers in a 6 p.m. start, followed by Moncton at Memorial at 7 p.m. The third match of the night will be the rematch of last year's championship final between the Saint Mary's Huskies and the Acadia Axewomen, also slated for a 7 p.m. start.

Acadia came out on top last season, earning the program's first ever AUS title.

The first semester of play will end on Nov. 30 with the second semester starting on Jan. 10.

Regular season action will wind down on Feb. 15 with the top four teams advancing to the post-season where two best-of-three semi-final series will be played. The winners from those series will then meet in a best-of-three championship series.

The U SPORTS Women's Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by the University of Manitoba, March 14-16.

Women's and men's track and field

The 2025 AUS Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships will be hosted by UNB at the Irving Oil Field House in Saint John, N.B., from Feb. 21-22.

The 2025 U SPORTS Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships will run from March 6-8 and will be hosted by the University of Windsor.
