X-Men Basketball guard Avan Nava was named STFX Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Mar. 12, 2023. Avan, a fourth year Arts student from Mississauga, ON was named player of the game in the X-Men’s heartbreaking 109-104 double overtime loss to Carleton in the U SPORTS national championship final game Sunday. Avan scored a game-high 30 points and added 3 rounds, 5 assists and a steal and was clutch down the stretch for the X-Men. He sank a crucial three-pointer with seconds on the clock to force the second overtime period. In STFX’s 77-64 semifinal win over top seeded Victoria he netted 17 points, and in the 107-98 quarterfinal win over Queen’s, Avan scored 15, had 5 assists and 2 steals.
