Track team opens competition at Halifax meet

Halifax, NS – The StFX track & field team competed at their first meet of the season Saturday at the Canada Games Centre at the Athletics NS Last Chance meet. Numerous sprinters and jumpers competed in many events for both the X-Women and X-Men squads.

Veteran fifth year athlete Hayley Wilson (Skye Glen, NS) broke her own StFX record in the 60m dash with a time of 7.71, good enough for second on the day. She eclipsed her previous PB of 7.74. It was one of four event she competed in on the day. She also had a third place showing in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.48, was second in the long jump at 4.95m and first in the triple jump at 11.21m.

Maddy Nastasiuk (Barrie, ON) placed in both the long jump and triple jump. She was first in the long jump with a 5.10m result and second in the triple jump at 9.82m.

Lani Deakin (Dubai, UAE) placed first in the high jump with a 1.50m jump for the X-Women.

In the sprints, Allie Flower (Lunenburg, NS) came first in the 300m dash with a 41.26 result, while teammate Samantha Taylor (Canterbury, NB) was third at 41.65.

Beth Lawrence (Ardoise, NS) was first in the 1000m at 3:20:93 and Megan Graham (Trenton, NS) came second overall in the 60m hurdles with a 9.45 result.

On the men's side, second year jumper Kirishnia Cooper (Nassau, Bahamas) broke the StFX record in the triple jump with a 13.09m result and a first place showing. He also won the long jump with a 5.99m jump.

Garrette VanderSlyk (Malagash, NS) was third in the long jump at 5.75m, while Cameron Glover (Murray River, PE) had a second place result for the X-Men in the high jump with a 1.80m jump.

In the sprinting results Adrian Kinney (Bristol, NB) came first in the 60m dash at 7.03 and was second in the 300m at 36.51.

Tim Brennan (Beechwood, NB) was first in the 60m hurdles at 8.91 and came third in the 300m dash with a 36.58 showing.

Wrapping up the X-Men finishes were Jonathan West (Port Hawkesbury, NS) came second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.24 and Quinton Alexander (Truro, NS) placed second in the 1000m at 2:41:35.
