X-Men Clinch 2nd Place

( Wolfville, NS )  The StFX X-Men improve to 4-3 with a 31-20 win over the Acadia Axemen, extending the Axemen's losing streak to 11 games and dropping Acadia to 0-7 on the season.  X-Men pivot Steve Snyder, named the player of the game, posted 20 completions on 33 pass attempts for 379 yards and three touchdown tosses.

X-Man Nick Guest grabbed two touchdown receptions and 95 yards in receiving, while teammate Akeem Foster added 146 yards in receiving and a major to lead StFX to their second victory over the Axemen this season.  The last match-up in mid-September resulted in a 20-13 overtime win in Antigonish.

StFX's Kyle Chisholm was good on three of four field goal attempts while adding a rouge on a missed field goal to bolster the X-Men's victory.  StFX rushed for only 128 yards in total on 31 attempts but capitalized during the third quarter with two touchdown tosses and a passing game that total 379 yards over four quarters.

\r\n

The Axemen, who held the lead for the first three quarters, collapsed defensively in the final frame allowing 17 points that included two passing touchdowns and a field goal. Second year quarterback Keith Lockwood was 23 for 43 pass attempts, while compiling 328 yards; however, the Axemen were limited to 93 yards on the ground that included a fumble on the StFX two yard line in the third quarter.

The Axemen will travel to Sackville, NB to face the 2-5 Mount Allison Mounties, while the X-Men will conclude the season in Halifax this Friday night against the league leading Saint Mary's Huskies who clinched the championship bye by defeating Mount Allison in today's second AUS matchup.  With the Axemen loss today, the playoff picture is settled with the Mounties grabbing third place while StFX's win today places them at home against the Mounties in two weeks time for the AUS semi-final game.
