In a history-making season, the 1958-59 X-Men Basketball varsity squad – coached by Alex MacAdam – won the Nova Scotia Intercollegiate title, the Maritime Intercollegiate crown, as well the Canadian Senior ‘B’ Championship. They are recognized as the first ‘official’ Atlantic university men’s basketball champions, helping ring in the modern era for the sport in this part of the country.

With only two regular season losses, the X-Men defeated Saint Mary's to capture the Nova Scotia banner before defeating New Brunswick champion Mount Allison to secure the regional crown. Although there was no collegiate championship tournament at that time, the X-Men entered the Canadian Amateur Basketball Association (CABA) playoffs for the chance to play for a national title. After victories over Dalhousie and St. Dunstan's, they went on to defeat the Centreville Legionnaires in the best-of-three final to secure the senior 'B' championship. Key contributors to their championship run included leading scorer Paul Davenport, league MVP Bob Moran, along with Ernie Foshay and Jim Walsh. In this dream season, the X-Men lost only four games.

Team members included: Ralph Chisholm, Terry Daigle, Paul Davenport, Bill Davis, Ernie Foshay, Dave Gouthro, Steve Haggan, Ed Hilton, Jack Kelly, Jack MacLean, Carl Marsh, Bob Monterio, Bob Moran, Joseph Sanborn, Ray Somerville, Jim Walsh, Student Manager John Dougher, and Head Coach Alex MacAdam.
