X-Women Cross Country team wins AUS championship banner

Siona Chisholm golden for STFX

Moncton, NB - Siona Chisholm of the STFX X-Women is the individual champion of the Atlantic University Sport Subway Cross Country Championship. Chisholm and her X-Women teammates also won the AUS championship banner and trophy in Saturday's 8km race at the Moncton campus.

Chisholm helped lead her team to the title with a first place time of 29:19, a lead of more than a minute over silver medalist Kelsey Hogan (30:37) of Dalhousie. Bronze medalist Paige Chisholm (30:41) of UPEI (a former X-Women runner) was four seconds behind Hogan in the race that featured 48 participants.

Chisholm noted that, "The conditions were very good on flat ground and I was able to run the way I wanted. I wanted to finish first and I was thinking about my teammates. The course was what I expected, and I felt good. At the U SPORTS Championship, I will see how everything goes for me."

In the team standings, StFX earned 25 points atop the standings, followed by Dalhousie with 53 in second place and UNB in third with 102. UPEI (106), Memorial (115), Acadia (131) and Moncton (189) rounded out the team standings.

STFX broke Dalhousie's streak of winning the last seven AUS championships as their last banner win was in 2012.

In addition to the top three finishers, the AUS all-star team featured Mairin Canning (StFX), Eileen Benoit (StFX), Jade Roberts (MUN) and Julia Cameron (StFX).
