StFX runners sweep top three in men's & women's 5k Johnny Miles races

StFX runners continue to shine in Maritime races this summer. At the recent 5k CIBC Wood Gundy Classic as part of the Johnny Miles marathon weekend in New Glasgow, N.S., four StFX runners finished in the top five.

Gabe Quenneville, who is currently entering his fourth season with the X-Men, won the 5k event in a time of 16:26. The Petawawa, Ont. native finished just ahead of his teammate Zach MacDonald, from Ardness, N.S. who clocked in at 16:39. MacDonald is a recent StFX graduate and former AUS James Bayer award nominee.

Antigonish native Patrick Marlow, entering into his second season with the X-Men, was third overall at 17:08, while X-Women AUS all-star Melissa Hardy placed fifth overall and first amongst the female competitors with an 18:22 posting. Hardy was a captain of the X-Women squad and will return to the StFX line-up for her third year of eligibility this fall.

Two more X-Women runners competed in the 5k race and finished second and third behind Hardy. Kendra MacNeil (19:58) and Ginny Anderson (20:40) are both from Antigonish are both entering their second year with the X-Women. MacNeil was also 8th overall in the race and first in her age group, while Anderson was 11th overall.
