Capers blank X-Women 5-0 with strong second half

Sydney, NS – After a scoreless first half, the Cape Breton Capers scored five unanswered goals in the second half to blank the visiting StFX X-Women Friday evening.

Karolyne Blain started the Capers scoring attack with a marker three minutes into the second half. Chelsea Currie then scored in the 52nd minute and Ciera Disipio scored two goals for Cape Breton, the first coming just two minutes after the Currie marker.

Disipio added to the lead in the 61st minute. Chantal Caron rounded out the scoring for the Capers with a penalty shot goal in the 83rd minute.

Lysianne Trottier earned the shutout victory in nets for the Capers (6-2-1) while Erin Visser took the loss for the X-Women, who fall to 5-2-1 on the season.

StFX head coach Graham Kennedy commented, "We made a series of uncharacteristic mistakes during a 20 to 25 minute spell that we'd like to have back."

"We started the game very well and we were playing some excellent soccer, but we came out unready to start the second half and were down 3-0 in 15 minutes. We've only given up five goals all year so this was a real shocker for us and we didn't respond the way we are capable. Despite the score there were lots of positives in the game and we will take these into our game on Sunday."

The X-Women will face the Dalhousie Tigers (3-4-2) Sunday afternoon at 1;00 pm in Halifax.
