X-Women end regular season with tie

The young StFX X-Women (3-6-4) ended the regular season with a scoreless tie versus the Memorial University SeaHawks in AUS soccer action Sunday at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.

Maris Miller, a fourth-year senior, recorded the shutout for the X-Women. The St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador native, made several key saves against her hometown university team.

Miller wrapped up the regular season with three shutouts.

Jaime Crocker earned the shutout for the SeaHawks (6-3-3), who secured a playoff spot with the tie.

The best opportunity to score for the X-Women came off the foot of fourth-year senior Melanie Sunada. The Calgary, AB, native ripped a long strike off the goal post in the first half.

Along with Miller and Sunada, Stephanie Venedam (Pomquet, Antigonish County) and Alix Bruch (Calgary, AB) were honoured in their final home match. The fourth-year seniors received a rousing ovation from their team-mates and the Oland Stadium crowd after the final whistle.

"It was great playing with them – an honour," Miller said during a halftime interview.

For the season, freshmen Brittany Parks and Kevyn Timmons, along with Sunada, led the X-Women with two goals apiece.

Nicole MacDonald, a freshman goalkeeper, also recorded a shutout for the blue and white.

It was the first season for the X-Women under head coach Graham Kennedy, who also guides the X-Men soccer program.
