X-Women soccer compete against US teams in pre-season action

The X-Women soccer team competed recently in the United States in three pre-season exhibition games, recording a tie and two losses in non-conference action.

The X-Women are under the direction of Graham Kennedy, in his first season as head coach. In their first game against Merrimack College in North Andover, MA, the X-Women got their feet wet and tried various systems of play with their new head coach, as they played to a 6-1 loss. Second year winger Danielle Aucoin (Lower Sackville, NS) scored the lone goal for StFX.

Fourth year keeper Maris Miller (St. John's, NF) and freshman Nicole MacDonald (Kanata, ON) split the netminding duties for X, as they did in the next two matches.

In their second game against St. Anslem College in New Hampshire, the X-Women played very well but came out on the end of a 1-0 loss.

They followed up with a 1-1 tie against Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. Johnson & Wales played a strong game defensively as the X-Women had numerous scoring chances, including three big chances in the final five minutes of play.

Freshman forward Logan Lee-Knight (Calgary) scored the X-Women's only goal of the game in the second half of play.

The X-Women will begin AUS regular season competition on September 7th and 8th when they travel to Moncton and UNB. Both games are 1:00 pm start times. Their home opener is slated for Saturday, September 14th at 2:00 pm against Acadia.
