X-Women remain winless on season

The X-Women soccer team remain winless this season after a 2-1 loss to Mount Allison and a 0-0 draw with UPEI in weekend action on the road.

Friday night in Sackville, NB the X-Women were playing catch-up as the Mounties got out to a 2-0 first half lead. Mount Allison goals came in the 26th minute from Amanda Volcko, and in the 41st minute from Myranda Weild.

The X-Women mounted a comeback in the second half and third year defender Vanessa Smykalski final got StFX on the score board with a goal in the 77th minute, however, it was too little too late and time ran out, sealing the victory for the Mounties, their second of the season.

Hannah Stegen earned the win in nets for Mount Allison, while Maris Miller took the loss for StFX.

On Saturday evening in Charlottetown, the X-Women and Panthers exchanged ten shots a piece, none of which found the back of the net as they played to a 0-0 scoreless draw.

Maris Miller made six saves in the StFX net and Chanelle Roy replied with seven saves for the Panthers (4-0-2) who remain one of two teams in the AUS conference without a loss to date.

The X-Women picked up their first point of the season as they struggle with a 0-4-1 record. Their next games will be Homecoming weekend at StFX. They will host the UNB Varsity Reds (1-1-2) on Friday night, Sept. 28th at 5:00 pm, followed by a Sunday afternoon game against the undefeated Cape Breton Capers  (4-0-0).
