Soccer X-Women fall to Tigers

The StFX X-Women opened up the AUS season on the short end of a 3-1 game in Halifax against the defending AUS champion Dalhousie Tigers. The Tigers scored three quick goals within the first 22 minutes of the game and the X-Women could not overcome the deficit.

Rieka Santilli opened the scoring for Dalhousie just five minutes into the game, while teammate Beth O’Reilly followed up with the second Tigers goal in the 16th minute. Bianca Jakisa rounded out the scoring in the 21st minute.

The X-Women then settled into the game and fourth year striker Nicole MacNeil got StFX on the board in the 38th minute with an unassisted goal. The 3-1 score held through half-time and both teams were kept off the score sheet in the second half.

Taryn McKenna earned the win in nets for the Tigers while Maris Miller took the loss in the StFX net. X-Women midfielder Stephanie Cameron was named the player of the game for X while Emma Landry took home player of the game honors for Dalhousie.

The X-Women (0-1) next see action in their home opener next Friday, September 14th at 5:00 pm when they will again face the Dalhousie Tigers (1-0).
