Soccer X-Women fall to Tigers

The X-Women soccer team fell victim to the Dalhousie Tigers Friday night at StFX Oland Stadium by a 4-1 score.

The Tigers set the pace early as Doriana Homerski scored a goal off a header just 11 minutes into the game.

The X-Women replied to tie the game as striker Maura Woodman broke in, beat a Tigers defender and fed the ball over to midfielder Stephanie Cameron who had an easy shot to beat Dalhousie keeper Taryn McKenna in the 24th minute.

Less than two minutes later, the Tigers brought the ball back up the field and regained their lead as pressure deep in the X zone resulted in a Bianca Jakisa goal. The 2-1 score held at half-time.

The Tigers added to the lead in the second half as Reika Santilli scored in the 55th minute and Daphne Wallace notched the Tigers fourth and final goal in the 75th minute. StFX keeper Anna Thompson had no chance on the Santilli goal as a long ball was passed just on side in front of the X defenders and she was left alone in tight against the veteran Thompson.

The X-Women’s best chance in the second half came from Mallory MacDonnell who rang one off the cross bar.

Biannca Jakisa earned Player of the Game honors for the Tigers, while Stephanie Cameron was the Player of the Game for StFX.

McKenna earned the win in nets for the Tigers who outshot the X-Women by a slight 12-11 margin in the game. Thompson took the loss for StFX whose record now stands at 3-2-1. The Tigers improve to 5-1-0 on the season.

The X-Women will host the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues (0-5-0) on Sunday at StFX Oland Stadium at 1:00 pm in Homecoming action.
