X-Women soccer midfielder Melanie Sunada is the latest athlete featured in our Getting to Know your X-Women and X-Men series throughout the summer. Melanie recently completed her first year with the X-Women and is an Arts student from Calgary, AB.

What brought you to StFX?
I have heard nothing but great things from everyone I know about StFX. Their soccer team won the 2009 AUS championship and that is very impressive, and I also received a soccer scholarship.

What has been your best moment in a StFX uniform so far?
When I scored my first goal off a corner kick in our first game and received player of the game.

What are you most looking forward to this season?
I am looking forward to travelling and doing better then last season because our team has bonded and I believe this is our year to win.

Who has been the most influential person in your life (and why)?
My mom. Through every struggle and hard time, she has never given up and always believes in living life to the fullest, making every moment the best, and being the best person you can be. One day I wish to be just like her.

One thing I cannot live without is…?
I would not be able to live without my family. They support me in everything I do and if I didn’t have them I would not be able to live.

My dream vacation destination is…?
I have always wanted to go to Greece because it is beautiful and the culture / scenery is beautiful.

Tell us one thing that fans may not know about you?
I have a very goofy personality, and enjoy the company of my fellow teammates a lot! I wouldn’t be the same without those girls
