X-Women Rugby earn exhibition wins in Montreal

Montreal, QC – The X-Women rugby team played a pair of exhibition games Thursday night and handily defeated their opponents. The first game featured a 58-5 victory over John Abbott College, then the CIS ranked No. 6 X-Women squad followed up with a 61-5 win over McGill.

The X-Women were paced by freshman Danielle Cormier (Halifax, NS) and June Beals (North Preston, NS) who each scored a pair of tries.

Single tries came from Amelia Hatfield (Halifax, NS), Jessica Tomeo (Hatley, QC), Jacqui Salvatore (Scarborough, ON), Keeley MacCuish (Trenton, NS), Jade Dillon (Ajax, ON) and Renee Taylor (Bridgewater, NS).

Salvadore added two conversions, as did Dominique Lalande (Halifax, NS) to round out the scoring for the X-Women.

In the second game of the evening the X-Women dominated their opponents from the RSEQ conference, playing to a 61-5 victory over the McGill Martlets.

Three different X-Women scored two tries apiece, including Joanna Alphonso (Ajax, ON), Natalie Lesco (London, ON) and Merrit Blair (Ottawa, ON).

The X-Women held a 36-0 advantage at half-time.

Single tries were scored by MacCuish, Catherine Rutledge (Halifax, NS), Brooke Newsome (Brantford, ON), Catharine MacKeigan (Toronto, ON) and Sara Gandy (Truro, NS).

Sabrina McDaid (Scarborough, ON) booted two conversions in the game and Jaelei Meyer (Carlyle, SK) also had a convert.

The X-Women take to the pitch again Friday night in Ottawa when they will play a double header against the Gee Gee's. Game times are 5:00 and 6:30 pm EST at the Lees Campus.
