X-Women rout Panthers 98-0 in AUS rugby action

The CIS ranked No. 1 StFX X-Women continue to dominate the AUS conference as they improved to 3-0 on the regular season with a 98-0 win over the UPEI Panthers (1-2) Friday night at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.

Fourth-year center Lisa Gauthier scored her first of two trys on the X-Women’s opening possession.

With her first of nine conversions, full back Magali Harvey gave the blue and white an early 7-0 lead.

From there, the X-Women continued the offensive charge, taking a 55-0 halftime lead in the physical match-up with the visiting Panthers.

Led by an early try by winger Amanda Thornborough, her first of two in the match, the X-Women outscored the Panthers 43-0 in the second half to provide the final margin of victory.

Harvey also collected three trys for the X-Women with Tyson Beukeboom chipping in a pair.

Asya Bartley, Olivia DeMerchant, Sara Kaljuvee, Vanessa Duffley, Tanisha Campbell, Jayme Ward and Lauren Agnew added single trys as part of a balanced X-Women attack.

DeMerchant took home Subway player of the game honors for the X-Women, who have outscored their opponents 269-3 in their past three games.

The X-Women return to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when they host the Saint Mary’s Huskies at StFX Homecoming 2012. The opening kick-off is set for 6 p.m. at OIand Stadium.
