Burbidge & MacLeod wrap up preliminary action at FISU Games

STFX X-Women Hockey forwards Maggy Burbidge and Lea MacLeod have wrapped up preliminary tournament action with Team Canada at the FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, NY.

The X-Women pair were selected as members of the U SPORTS all-star team for the Games and have finished tournament action with a perfect 5-0 record.

Burbidge has five points including three goals and two assists, while MacLeod has one goal and an assist. The Canadian squad has outscored their opponents by a 61-2 margin.

They opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over Slovakia on Wednesday, Jan. 11th and followed up with a 5-1 victory over Czechia last Saturday. Burbidge had an assist in that match.

The Canadians then defeated Japan (6-0) on Sunday and easily handled Great Britain (14-0) on Tuesday. Burbidge scored a goal in the game against the Japanese and had two goals and an assist against Great Britain. MacLeod scored and assisted on another in the Great Britain game.

Team Canada rounded out preliminary play with a closer 2-1 win over the USA on Wednesday evening.

They will advance to play Slovakia in the semifinals on Friday, Jan. 20th at 3:30 pm AST. The winner meets the other semifinal winner (Czechia-Japan) in the gold medal match Saturday at 9:30 pm.
