X-Women Hockey welcome defence Ella VandeSompel

ANTIGONISH, NS – X-Women Hockey head coach Ben Berthiaume is happy to announce the commitment of defence Ella VandeSompel for the 2021-22 season.

Ella is 5'4" right-handed playmaking defender from London, Ont. who competes with the Bluewater Hawks of the PWHL. In her third season with the Hawks, she has collected 15 points in 68 games over the past two seasons. VandeSompel is known for her impressive skill set and skating ability.

Coach Berthiaume had the following to say about the latest addition to the X-Women line-up for September, "We were happy to get word that Ella decided to commit to our program. She is a dynamic player that, to us as coaches, reminds us a bit of Jenna Pitts, who was among the top D ever to play at StFX".

"Ella has the ability to skate the puck or move it swiftly, which will help her be successful at our level. Her offensive mindset will be a boost to our defensive core and we envision her being an impact player."

VandeSompel has been accepted into the Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics program at StFX and joins previously announced 2021-22 recruits forwards Ellie Brown (Kemptville, ON), Landyn Pitts (Antigonish, NS) and Kamdyn Switzer (Stittsville, ON), and defender Vivian Hinch (Vancouver, BC).
