X-Women rally to beat Aigles Bleues

MONCTON – The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (6-11-3) gave up three unanswered goals in the third period to fall 4-2 to the visiting St. Francis Xavier X-Women (12-7-0), Saturday in AUS action at the J. Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Aigles took a 2-1 lead in the third period but three consecutive goals lifted the X-Women to victory.

The visitors opened the scoring in the game as U SPORTS leading point-getter Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB) scored unassisted and shorthanded at 10:15.

Katryne Villeneuve (Casselman, ON) knotted the game with under two minutes to play in the first period, scoring on a breakaway off a nice pass up the boards by Karine Roy (Nigadoo, NB).

The lone second period goal came from Aigles Bleues forward Judyanne Bernier (Rimouski, QC) on a shot from in front of the StFX net amidst a crowd of players in front of StFX goaltender Ariana Orasanin (Ancaster, ON). Brittany Poitras (Saint-André, NB) assisted.

The StFX comeback began at 9:17 of the third period when Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS) scored shorthanded on a breakaway after taking a rink-long pass from Bujold.

Emily Power (Airdrie, AB) scored the game winner on a hard shot in the slot in front of a crowded Moncton net. Lydia Schurman (Summerside, PE) had the lone helper.

Bujold, the Subway player of the game, rounded out the StFX scoring with an empty netter at 19:44 from Nicole Corcoran (Bloomfield, PE).

Aigles Bleues goalkeeper Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, QC) had 38 saves in the game in the losing effort as the X-Women outshot the Aigles 42-29.

Orasanin turned aside 27 pucks to pick up her ninth win of the season.

Moncton will be back in action Sunday as they host Saint Mary's (14-2-3) at 2:00 p.m. The X-Women will also be in action Sunday at 2 p.m. as they host the UPEI Panthers (13-6-1) at home at the StFX Keating Centre.
