X-Women hockey duo to attend national development camps

ANTIGONISH, NS – A pair of X-Women hockey athletes have been extended invitations to attend national development camps. Incoming first year defense Lindsey Donovan has been selected to attend the 2016 national women's development team selection camp taking place in Calgary, Alta. from August 5-14. Fourth year X-Women forward Daley Oddy was invited to participate in the Hockey Canada Development Camp as a member of team CIS, running in conjunction with the same national team development camp in Calgary.

X-Women hockey head coach David Synishin comments, "We are very excited as a program to have two players competing at the next level. They have both worked hard to get to this point in their careers and are very deserving."

Daley Oddy is a fourth year Human Kientics student from Cranbrooke, B.C. who was a member of the CIS team that won silver in the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain. She is a three-time AUS all-star who led the X-Women in scoring this past season with 20 points (9 goals and 11 assists). The majority of CIS athletes selected for the August development camp will also be asked to participate in the FISU games for Team Canada in Kazakhstan from Jan.25 - Feb.9, 2017.

The August camp is also an opportunity for the CIS to measure itself against the top identified players for Hockey Canada. Oddy will be evaluated along with approximately 40 of Canada's best players in the 18-22 age category, where any high achievers may be asked to stay on for another week to compete for Canada's Development Team in a mini-series vs the USA. While at the camp the CIS team will be competing in a round robin tournament against Sweden's national team and two Hockey Canada development teams. The final roster for the 2017 FISU Games in Kazakhstan will be finalized at the conclusion of the Calgary camp.

Lindsey Donovan is a left-handed defenseman who will be joining the X-Women program this fall, coming from Rothesay Netherwood School of the NAPHA. Before lacing up for the blue and white, the Miramichi, N.B. native will be attending the national women's development team selection camp August in Calgary, being evaluated amongst approximately 40 of Canada's best players in the 18-22 age category. She will compete on one of two development teams who will play games against the CIS All-Star Team that Oddy is on, as well as the Swedish National Team. Donovan will also have the opportunity to be selected for the squad that plays a three-game series against the US national women's Under-22 Team from August 15th-21st.
