Montreal, QC – The CIS ranked No. 9 X-Women hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 10 ranked Ottawa Gee Gee's Saturday evening in their opening game at the Theresa Humes Memorial tournament, hosted by Concordia University.

The X-Women opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game as Kara Power tallied off a Taylor Dale assist. The goal was the only one of the first period as the X-Women held a slight 8-7 shot advantage in the opening frame.

Cindy Laurin tied the game for the Gee Gee's at 2:02 of the second period. Roxanne Rioux had the lone assist on the play.

Laurin then netted what would hold out to be the game winner while Ottawa was on the power play just two minutes later. Emilie Bouchard assisted on the play.

The Gee Gee's held the 2-1 lead after two periods, despite being outshot by the X-Women 14-6 in the period as the blue and white could not solve Gee Gee's netminder Maude Levesque-Ryan.

Shots again favored the X-Women in the third period (10-8) but it was the Gee Gee's who got on the board, scoring two more goals at 16:33 and 19:04.

Melodie Bouchard and Rioux were the third period goal scorers as total shots in the game favored StFX at 32-21.

Levesque-Ryan earned the win in the Gee Gee's net while Sojung Shin took the loss for the X-Women.

The Gee Gee's are coached by former X-Men hockey alumnus Yanick Evola.

StFX next sees action when they face-off against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday at 4:00 pm AST at Ed Meagher Arena at Concordia's Loyola Campus.
