X-Women fall 2-1 in overtime to Tommies

Fredericton, NB – The CIS ranked No. 8 X-Women fell 2-1 in overtime to the St. Thomas Tommies Saturday afternoon at Grant Harvey Arena. Lauren Henman scored her second goal of the game 4:19 into the overtime period to give the Tommies the home ice victory.

St. Thomas skated away with the win despite being outshot 33-24 by the X-Women. Tommies goaltender Taylor Cook earned Subway player of the game honors with her 32 save performance.

After a scoreless first period, Henman opened the scoring in the game at 8:59 of the second period as Emily Oleksuk assisted on the play.

The X-Women didn't waste much time in tying the game as Daley Oddy scored from Kara Power and Sarah Bujold at 13:22 of the second.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third period, forcing the overtime frame. Shots were 33-21 in favor of the X-Women at the end of regulation but they were unable to register a shot on net in overtime as the Tommies sealed the win.

Cook was named the game's first star while Henman and Oddy were second and third stars, respectively.

Sojung Shin registered 22 saves in nets for StFX.

With the win the Tommies improve to 4-1-0 on the season and gained sole possession of first place in the AUS standings. They will host Mount Allison (2-3-0) Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.

The third place X-Women (2-2-1) will play the fourth place Moncton Aigles Bleues (2-2-0) Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is 2:00 pm in Moncton.
