Hockey X-Women pick up two weekend wins

The CIS No. 8 X-Women hockey team picked up a pair of weekend wins in AUS action, shutting out the Dalhousie Tigers 6-0 in Halifax Saturday night, then following up with a 4-2 victory over Mount Allison Sunday in Sackville, N.B.

The victories increase their winning streak to four consecutive games and improve their standing atop the AUS conference to 17-3-2 and 36 points, four ahead of second place Saint Mary's.

In the win over Dalhousie, the X-Women tallied four power play goals including two from freshman forward Daley Oddy. Subway player of the game Alex Normore scored one goal and assisted on four others.

StFX opened up a 3-0 first period lead with goals from Oddy, Molly MacDonald and Normore. Oddy had the lone second period goal them Kara Power and Jenna Pitts rounded out the X-Women scoring with third period markers, both with the extra attacker.

Sojung Shin picked up her 11th win of the season in the StFX net with 23 saves. The win also marked her fifth shutout of the season.

Mati Barrett took the loss for the Tigers, posting 29 saves as the slumping Tigers were outshot 35-23 by the X-Women.

Shin was also between the pipes in Sunday's 4-2 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville, posting 27 saves.

Oddy opened the scoring in the game with a first period power play goal. The teams exchanged goals in the second period as Erin Brophy tallied for the X-Women and Kara Anthony scored for Mount A.

The Mounties tied the game in the third on a Megan Entwistle goal but the X-Women replied a minute later as Molly MacDonald notched what would be the game winner. Brophy scored an insurance marker, her second of the game, with only 18 seconds remaining.

Kara Power had two assists for the X-Women who outshot the Mounties by a slim 30-29 margin. Keri Martin had 26 saves in the Mount Allison goal.

Next on the schedule for the X-Women is a pair of home games to close out AUS regular season play. They will host Saint Mary's on Friday, Feb. 14th at 7pm, followed by a 2:00 game on Sunday afternoon against Dalhousie.
