Hockey X-Women improve to 8-0

The CIS ranked No. 4 X-Women kept their unbeaten streak intact with a 3-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers Saturday evening in Charlottetown.

Freshman forward Lisa Downey's second period goal at 6:52 proved to be the decider as the X-Women improve to 8-0 on the season.

Downey's unassisted marker was her first career AUS goal.

X-Women head coach David Synishin commented, "It was good to get two points on the road as UPEI is always a tough place to play."

Alex Normore scored the X-Women first goal while shorthanded 7:52 into the first period off a feed by Schyler Campbell.

It was the only goal of the first period as the X-Women outshot the Panthers 8-3.

Courtney Stewart  (Joclyn Dougan & Keirstin Visser) tied the game for the Panthers at 2:17 of the second period but Molly MacDonald re-established StFX's one goal advantage over three minutes later.

Taylor Dale and Kara Power assisted on MacDonald's goal then Downey gave the X-Women a 3-1 lead.

Teagan Pringle closed the gap with a 17:41 second period goal from Stewart.

Shots through two periods of play were 16-8 in favor of the X-Women.

The third period brought no scoring despite three power play chances on the part of the Panthers as the X-Women held on for the 3-2 win.

Final shots came in at 18-15 in favor of StFX. Pascale Daigle picked up the win in the StFX net.

Next on the schedule for the X-Women is a home game against the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday, November 22nd at 7:00 pm.
