X-Women hockey weekend preview: Feb. 17-18 vs UdeM & STU

Friday, February 17:  StFX vs Moncton

StFX X-Women:   17-4-0 record with 34 points, ranked No. 4 in CIS and first place in AUS conference

UdeM Aigles Bleues:  16-3-1 record with 33 points, ranked No.5 in CIS and second in AUS conference

Season Series:  Moncton has the edge on the X-Women, leading season series 2-1.  Moncton won the first two matchups 8-6 and 1-0 while the X-Women won the last matchup 5-2. 

StFX Key Players:
Alex Normore:  23 goals and 27 assists for 50 points in 21 games. First in both CIS and AUS scoring.
Janelle Parent:  23 goals, 21 assists for 44 points in 21 games. Second in Both CIS and AUS scoring.
Brittney Perkins:  6 goals, 18 assists for 24 points in 21 games. Seventh in AUS scoring.

Moncton Key Players:
Marie-M Poirier:  20 goals, 11 assists for 31 points in 20 games.  Eleventh in CIS and third in AUS scoring.
Johannie Thibeault:  8 goals, 19 assists for 27 points in 21 games. Tied for fourth in AUS scoring.
Genevieve David:  7 goals, 16 assists for 23 points in 19 games.  First in AUS defenseman scoring

Goaltending Matchup:

Aigles Bleues:
  Kathy Desjardins has a  1.71 GAA and .941 save percentage with record of 13 wins, 2 losses 0 shootout losses and 6 shutouts.

X-Women:  Kristy Garrow has a 1.00 GAA and .955 save percentage with record of 10 wins, 0 losses, 0 shootout losses and 4 shutouts.

Game Notes:

These two teams have been the cream of the crop in the AUS all season and the X-Women will be looking to tie the season series up at 2-2.

Both the X-Women’s Kristy Garrow and Moncton’s Kathy Desjardins have combined for 10 shutouts between the two of them. Both are having outstanding seasons in net.

StFX and Moncton are 1 and 2 in virtually every offensive and defensive category in the AUS.

Moncton will be looking to usurp the X-Women for first place in the conference with a victory.

Saturday, February 18:  StFX vs St. Thomas

St. Thomas:  9-10-1 record with 19 points, fifth place in AUS conference

Season Series:  The X-Women lead season series 2-1. StFX won by scores of 6-1 and 5-2 earlier in the year but the Tommies won the last matchup these two teams played 4-1.

St. Thomas Key Players:
Kayla Blackmore:  15 goals, 12 assists for 27 points in 17 games. Tied for fourth in AUS scoring.
Danielle Miller:  5 goals, 13 assists for 18 points in 20 games.  Tied for 12th in AUS scoring.
Katie Brewster:  9 goals, 6 assists for 15 points in 20 games.

St. Thomas Goaltender:
Julia Sharun has a 2.94 GAA and .909 save percentage with record of 8 wins, 9 losses, 0 shootout losses.

Game Notes:

In the last meeting between St. Thomas and StFX, Tommies goaltender Julia Sharun played a very strong game, making 42 saves in the victory.

The Tommies will be looking to steal another two points from the X-Women this Saturday as both teams have clinched playoff spots.

The X-Women have the top rated power play percentage at 23% while the Tommies have the eighth ranked penalty killing percentage at 75.3%.
