X-Women Hockey Preview Ð Feb. 5th vs MtA

The CIS No. 4 ranked and AUS first place X-Women host a matinee game against the fourth place Mount Allison Mounties this Sunday afternoon, February 5th at the StFX Keating Centre. Puck drop is 2:00 pm.

X-Women vs. Mounties:  The X-Women have played well this season against the Mounties, winning all three games the teams have played. The games were very close however, as the X-Women were able to win by scores of 2-0, 3-2 and 3-0. This will be the fourth and final matchup between the two teams before the AUS playoffs, scheduled for March 1-4 at Dalhousie University.

Key Players:  X-Women forwards Alex Normore and Janelle Parent have been a lethal combination this season for the blue and white. Normore is first in the country in scoring, totalling 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points in 19 games. Parent has been no slouch either, collecting 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points in 19 games. The X-Women are an explosive offensive team, as they boast three other scorers in Brittney Perkins, Jenna Pitts and Suzanne Fenerty in the top 15 in scoring. The Mounties are getting solid offensive contributions from Lindsay James, who has 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 17 games and Ashlyn Somers who is 14th in league scoring with 6 goals and 9 assists for 15 points in 17 games.

Goaltenders:  Mounties netminder Megan Corley-Byrne is fifth overall in the league with a 2.03 GAA, 9.31 save percentage and one shutout. The X-Women split their goaltending tandem up, as Kristy Garrow is first in the league with a 1.00 GAA and 9.54 save percentage, along with four shutouts, while Katie Greenway is fourth in the league with a 2.01 GAA, 9.02 save percentage and two shutouts.

Game Notes:  The X-Women are first in virtually every single statistical team category except for saves, as their defense has stymied opponents all season long. Mount Allison is a team on the rise in this league and their play this season has showed that. They have competed very well this season against the X-Women and by no means can the X-Women get complacent. Both of these teams have already secured AUS playoff berths.
